In the fresh air
We decided to pay homage to this lifestyle through one of its most recognisable symbols: taking a chair out into the fresh air. It is a tradition that goes back a long way. When the sun goes down, grandmothers go out onto the street with their chairs to cool down and chat with their neighbours. A daily scene that is all about sharing time, about community and living life with open doors. An image that sums up the natural relationship between indoors and outdoors that typifies the Mediterranean.
Houses are laid out around courtyards, thick walls keep them cool and the windows open out wide. Eating on the patio, taking shelter in the shade of a vine or taking chairs down to the street in the evening are customs that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Here, designing means taking in everything around us. Choosing materials that can withstand the sun and the passage of time. Thinking about light, actual use and how life will look in each space.
